It’s A Pirate Life For Me Week #4

During this week our students learned all about the jobs that pirates did on the ship.  We learned about a cooper, a quartermaster, and a navigator.

Miss Jacci brought in a ship compass and a quarterstaff.  We practiced finding latitude and longitude using the horizon line just like real pirates.

We used our Smart Board to match pirates to the tools that they used on the ship.

Miss Jacci even brought in a real cannonball.  This was fired from cannons in the gun ports of pirate ships during battles.  It was very heavy!!!

Our week ended with each class writing an original poem about pirate ships.  We put all of the new information that we learned into our Pirate Journals.  We also began learning our 1st Sea Chantey which is a shipboard working song.
